About Concentration

Inspired by Mary Ellen Mark, my photography explores the lost and recovered identities of the homeless in San Francisco. I begin by displaying the forgotten homeless, juxtaposing oblivious passersby with the people lying at their feet. The images evolve from an outsider perspective to a personal, confrontational view of the homeless. By the end, the photos remove the cloak of invisibility, revealing the humanity of my subjects through diptych portraits. The viewer is forced to come face-to-face with the ignored.

This project was photographed with a 35mm film camera. Images were developed in a darkroom and printed using a variety of darkroom and digital scanning techniques.
